Hello, my name is Eliud Rodriguez. I was born and raised in Rochester, NY. Luckily for me, God gifted me with an artistic eye and mind. I was able to draw and paint anything I could see around me since the young age of 3 years old. My skills and ability continued to flourish over the years. This kept me sharp and helped me pay attention to even the smallest of details in my environment.
Fortunately for me, in 1982 someone recognized my artistic talents, and I was accepted into the "School of Performing Arts". Here, I was able to experience and learn the arts in many other forms such as: Drama, Dance, Art, Music, and Photography. I embraced the opportunity and received numerous awards & accolades as a result.
This was when I discovered that photography was perfect for me. Not only did it require my natural eye for detail but it challenged it too. Unfortunately for me, my family nor I had much money and could not afford a 35mm camera. My photography teacher suggested that I make a pinhole camera. I did, and captured some most amazing black and white photos from it. I used this homemade camera until I was able to afford a real camera. I continued to take photographs year after year and slowly became the "family" photographer at most of our important events.
In 1987, I joined the Navy and became a Navy Corpsman for 4 years and did two more years with the US Marine's 8th tank battalion. I was able to get a lot of great photos during this experience.
In 1993, I was accepted into the "Rochester Police Department" as a rookie police officer. This of course came after a grueling year and a half of physical and written tests, background checks, and the completion of the Police Academy. I worked the same city streets I grew up on for 9 years straight. I then saw an opportunity to apply for a position in Technician's Unit, which is a specialized unit within the Central Investigation Division. The Technician's Unit is Rochester's (CSI). I now conduct major felony investigations for physical evidence at all crime scenes involving burglaries, assaults, rapes, robberies, and murder. My job includes photographing all the important elements of the scene, finger printing, and the collection of any physical evidence.(DNA, Trace, Fiber, etc.).
Life has never made more sense to me. Especially when thinking about my experiences of growing up in the city, my gift for art, my attention to detail, and my love for photography. Life has groomed me to do the two things I love best: Being a police officer and being a photographer. I have worked hard and have been blessed along the way for it.
Thank you for taking the time to read my biography section. Let me leave you with a simple, but deep, quote that has helped me rise above and succeed in many situations. *** "Adversity introduces a man to himself". ***
Thank you,
"Eliud"
